We have had some great community helper guest speakers. Yesterday A nurse came and talked to the kids about her job. The kids loved seeing her medical equiptment. We aslo had an man from Bank of America who won the hearts of the kids by giving everyone a frisbee. The afternoon classes had fun learning about taking good care of their teeth from a dentist. Today a landscaper brought a flower for every student to take and plant at their home. Ask you child about these visits. There will be many more to come this week.
A fun way to practice writing letters and sight words is to take jello powder and pour some on a paper plate. Students can write letters a with their fingers in the powder. For extra fun dip sliced apples in the jello for a treat after a job well done. The kids love this activity! Enjoy! We are working on letter naming fluency. All kindergartners should be able to quickly name letters without thinking about it. This week's homework has a letter fluency practice sheet. Students need to point to each letter independently and quickly. Please time them each day to see if they show improvement. Thanks for you support at home!
This week in kindergarten we are working on pointing to each word as we read. I gave the students careful kitty gloves with a paw print on the index finger. I told the students that careful kitty points carefully at each word when reading. The students did a great job with this in class. Please reinforce this skill at home.
